Yup! I realize
that two of the pictures above are the same. If you can find another shot
from this film, please email me
with it!
Synopsis:
Larsen, an aspiring poet in 20's
Oslo, leaves his girlfriend to spend a year as a trapper in East Greenland.
There he is teamed with a seemingly rough old sailor/trapper, Randbek, and a
scientist, Holm. Trapped in a tiny hut together as the arctic winter sets in, a
complex and intense love/hate relationship develops between Randbek and Larsen,
who are more similar than either would like to admit. A powerful psychological
and physical drama set against stunningly bleak arctic scenery.
Brian's Rating:
C- : This was the first movie made in Norway that I have seen, and I have to
say that it did not leave me wanting for more. The praise I can give it is that
I did think the acting was quite good. Especially the actor who portrayed the
crazy trapper that gives new meaning to having a temper. He is kind of like the
chick from Misery, but to a lesser degree.
More needed to happen in this film, or the stuff that did happen needed to
happen quicker, or maybe both. If it was going for suspense, it just did not
make it because I was fighting drowsiness before anything remotely suspenseful
happens. Having a single scene akin to smashing a guy's ankles with a sledge
hammer would have made a boat load of difference. It lacks this, and so it
falls flat in my opinion.
