Synopsis:
You Kill Me is the story of Frank Falenczyk, a hitman
with a drinking problem. Interesting premise huh? Of
course we've seen the mafia boss having typical problem
storyline a number of times...most notably in The
Sopranos, but it still works here.
After a botched hit, Frank's uncle, the boss of his
gangster family in New York, gives Frank an
ultimatum...dry out or sleep with the fishes. Frank is
sent to San Francisco, where he is monitored by a
gangster wannabe played by Bill Pullman and forced to
deal with his problems. Frank goes to AA meetings and
even picks up an everyday job at a mortuary, where he is
more than comfortable with dead bodies.
The Freak's
Rating: B- : At
times the dialogue is a little cheesy and the third act
is predictable, but it is fun none the less. Tea Leoni
does a great job in a supporting role as Kingsley's love
interest and practically makes the movie work on her
own. Bill Pullman, Luke Wilson and Dennis Farina round
out a well-cast list of characters that play their roles
perfectly. Sir Ben is a wonderful dramatic actor, but it
is great to see he can still pull off a comedy.
You Kill Me isn't an oscar winner, it isn't even the
best comedy of the year (See Superbad review for that
one), but it is good fun and worth a see.
