Synopsis:
Waitress is the
story of Jenna, a
waitress in
small-town America.
Jenna (played by
Russell) has a
talent for creating
pies, the best
around in fact.
Jenna creates pies
according to her
mood, such as the
"smash your husband
over the head with a
shovel" pie.
At the restaurant,
she serves all the
town regulars,
including eccentric
Old Joe (played by
Andy Griffith).
Jenna is married to
Earl, played by the
wonderful Jeremy
Sisto. Earl
mistreats Jenna in
about every way
possible. He
expects her to wait
on him hand and
foot, he wants her
to love him more
than anything and
respect him, but
gives her none of
the same. The
scenes with him are
heartbreakingly
realistic and you
feel for her, but
still can't help but
laugh at his
ignorance.
Sisto is responsible
for some of the
movie's funniest
moments. The
rest of the cast
does a great job as
well, from Cheryl
Hines as Jenna's
coworker to Nathan
Fillion as the young
town doctor.
The Freak's
Rating: B+ :
I
wasn't a huge
Felicity fan.
In fact, I never saw
an episode. At
the time I think I
was in college and
watching it wouldn't
have gone over well
with the roommates.
After seeing her in
Waitress, I added
season one of the
show to my Netflix
queue. Keri
Russell has serious
acting talent and it
is showcased nicely
in Waitress.
Waitress is a film
that is written
well, almost too
well. There
are a handful of
moments that nearly
needed to be toned
down from a cuteness
level too high for
most, but they still
work. Dialogue
is very clever,
scenes are edited at
correct length and
camera shots allow
the film to flow in
a fun, enjoyable
way. Waitress
is defeinitely worth
checking out.
Jen's
Rating:
B : This was a good movie. For those who
like to bake I think would especially like it. I loved how the pies were tied
into specific events in her life. The ending was love/hate for me...don't want
to give anything away so it's hard to explain. Makes me want pie :)
Angie's Rating: B+ : What
can I say? I am a fan of dialog! I loved it. It's down to earth,
clever, and funny. Not your typical romantic comedy though. The
acting from Kerri Russell and Adrienne Shelly are great and the ties
between the storyline and the next inventive pie adds a little
"flavor". :) I'm only sorry this one didn't reach more audiences.
Lori's Rating: C : OK. I don't
rate movies the same as you do...I rate them on if I like them or
not... I'm absolutely sure the director got what he was aiming for,
because the only thing that kept me going was how bad I felt for
Keri Russell. I suppose that was the directors hope. The movie was
slow at times but I was glad in the end she stood up for herself.
