 Synopsis:
Transformers plays
Shia's talents in
their favor. Here he
plays Sam Witwiki, a
16 year old teenager
who has incredible
likability right from
the start. He's kind
of a nerd, having the
ebay account name
ladiesman, but somehow
happens upon an
Autobot (those are the
good guys for the
non-nerdy ones out
there) named Bumblebee
for his first car.
The Freak's
Rating: F : Sam
has the hots for
Mikaela, played by
Megan Fox. This, as my
favorite critic
Richard Roeper said,
is the best special
effect of the film.
Not only is Mikaela
hotter than anything
under the sun, but
alas, she is a
troubled teenage girl
who always picks jerks
to date and can
rebuild a motor
because she's a tomboy
deep down. How lucky a
trait to have in a
girl who just so
happens to accompany
our hero into a world
of broken down
machinery. Will we see
her put this poorly
timed mention of her
talent to use later in
the film? Hmm...I
don't know.
Before
long, the Autobots
appear to Sam and the
quest to save our
planet begins. I went
to see this film with
my good friend Nate,
who by self-admission
is just as geeky as I
am. We both had
Transformer toys as
kids and were looking
forward to absolutely
no story. We just
wanted to have fun.
Nate actually turned
to me 1 minute into
the film, after a few
marines were
introduced, and said
"there is your
character development.
That's all I need to
see". Well, Nate got
what he wanted...kind
of.
It was here, about one
minute in, when
Transformers began to
fail. Storyline after
storyline became less
believable until I was
chuckling to myself at
how awful the film was
at about a half hour
in. The President of
the United States was
shown asking for Ding
Dongs as the world was
going crazy. Now I'm
not a Bushie by any
means, but come on!
Jon Voigt gives a turn
as the Secretary of
Defense and John
Turturro destroys all
my Big-Lebowski love
for him by playing a
"sector 7" government
agent who destroys all
sense of logic known
to man in every phrase
he utters.
Transformers is
horrible in every way.
The special effects
are ridiculous, making
you feel jerked around
in your seat the whole
movie not really
knowing what is going
on. It was the same
effect over and over
and not even that good
of one to start with.
These Transformers
looked NOTHING like
the toys I grew up
with. Shia's
performance is good as
a 16yr old. Let's wait
for Indiana Jones 4 to
take him as a young
adult. Megan Fox
deserves a look, but
the rest of the movie
does not.
Sebastian's Rating: B- : oh come on
it wasnt soo bad, watch jamesnintendonerd's review on it, it explains it bascily.
i did enjoy it storyline was crap but it was fun and thats the main thing
Jennifer M's Rating: F : Kill me. I can't believe anyone out there
liked this movie. Don't waste your time or money!
Nate's Rating: F : if I was
seriously considering bashing my head against the seat in front of me to stop
the pain, would that be an "F", or are we grading on curve, in which case it's
more like a "D"?
Scott Crays - This movie was a
good CGI effects movie, but I was disapointed in Director Michale Bay's vision
of The war between Autobots and Decepticons. It was pretty loosely based, in my
opinion on the 80's cartoon and comic book. Also in my opinion, Prime was much
more of a badass then. In the 1986 cartoon Transformers:The Movie, Prime does
something no other main character/good guy leader/ hero does, He dies for his
cause. This even predates the death of superman in the comic books. In my
opinion the cartoon 1986 version is far superior.
Alex's Rating: D : My
girlfriend loves action films and superhero films... whereas I would much rather
spend 3 hours watching Sex And The City! So I'm afraid that this isn't my cup of
tea.
The special effects are amazing, there's no doubt about it, but I found it
immensely boring.
Chris's
Rating: F : Saw most of it on the way back from post-prom...let's just say
that I'm not sure what was better: actually getting back, or not having to watch
the movie any more.
Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf were a decent couple...at least, until it turned into
an action film. From what I saw, Shia's character is clueless and/or inept,
although he does get better somehow at somepoint.
Having never played with Transformers, I thought that they were good, but, after
asking my brother, I realized that they, too, sucked.
Brian's Rating: D : Why did I watch this? Why did I not heed the warnings on this site? It was because I was trying to work up to watching Transformers 2. Terrible idea. I cannot get those 2 hours back, and I removed Transformers 2 from my queue.
Ok, all that aside, it was cool to see some of the transformations, and it was cool to see the CGI-based action from this childhood icon. Too bad that nothing else about this is good. See the other reviews.
