Synopsis:
In a city where streets are overrun
by drug dealers, those who have sworn to uphold the law are breaking them to
clean up the streets. Denzel Washington plays L.A.P.D detective Alonzo Harris, a
veteran narcotics officer whose methods of enforcing the law are questionable,
if not corrupt. 'Training Day' follows Harris as he trains rookie Jake Hoyt
(Ethan Hawk) over a period 24 hours. Ethical dilemmas arise for Hoyt as well as
the audience as questions present themselves as to whether or not Harris'
methodology for ridding the streets of South Central Los Angeles of drugs is
right or wrong.

I ventured into the realm of the new PSN (Playstation Network) movies on demand
to check out this film. First, a short comment on the downloaded movie. Sure,
its convenient, but short of that, I will not use it much. Video was in 720P,
but sound was only 2 channel stereo. For a $5 rental price tag and an eight
hour download, it is not a well I will be dipping into very often.
I had
already seen Training Day, but Lisa had not. I like the movie, and therefore
did not have a problem viewing it again with her. Denzel Washington usually
does a good job, and this movie is no exception. It is fun to watch him play
the rogue, maverick narcotics officer as he trains in a new protege. The story
line is fluent, the characters are engaging, and their are spurts of action
scattered throughout. It is not the mind blowing non-stop action of Dark
Knight, but the character development strings it together nicely and I found
myself entertained throughout. The plot is a little predictable, but fun to
watch nonetheless.
It gets my recommendation. Check it out if you get a
chance.
