After my wife told me in conversation a month or so ago that this was the better of the two films, I instantly added both to my Netflix queue and awaited their arrival. Having just rewatched both films in the span of a couple weeks, I can honestly say I believe her opinion to be incorrect.
Three Men And A Little Lady is a typical 80s sequel, strung together to attempt to pull familiar characters and a lovable child into a storyline that works. Sadly it doesn't. Steve Guttenberg is utterly useless here (the editors no doubt agreed) and Ted Danson has to resort to one-liners (sorry Ted, those aren't good either). Nancy Travis and Tom Selleck are both good here as they reprise their roles. Mary is mistakenly cast as far as Hollywood children go (little warmth there if you ask me). The best part of the film comes from newcomer Lynne Marta. Her role as the head master at the school for girls completely steals the show and makes it tolerable as a comedy/drama.
As with most sequels, if you love the first you'll probably like the second enough to enjoy it. Similarly, as with films you grew up with, if you loved them growing up you'll probably still enjoy it. On a fresh look, the original is FAR superior in my opinion and this squeeks by as a "glad I saw".
