Angie's Rating: A+ : I loved this movie as a kid. My parents tell me all the time that I watched it repeatedly until I wore out the tape they recorded it on. The only nice thing about it, according to them, was that they could put it on and leave me knowing I wouldn't move an inch.
I can say as an adult, I do still love watching this movie. I have said, "it's the greatest movie of all time," this is mostly nostalgia talking, however, I don't think I could give any movie that title. How could you? Every movie is good for a different reason, and I don't think anyone could agree on one. That being said, it's in the category of elite films, in my humble opinion. I am still awed by the cinematic accomplishments of this movie. From the marketing to the special effects, it's amazing.
I watched this in the theaters for the 70th anniversity of the release of the film. I absolutely loved watching it in the theater in HD. It did not disappoint. If you are as big of a fan as I am, check out the special edition blue ray. (I believe) It will include the history behind the film including marketing, casting, special effects, etc... as it did in the theater before the movie began and of course, seeing it in HD.
I thought seeing it in HD would take something away from it, but I didn't mind seeing the painted backgrounds and the occasional mistake in the film... it's still amazing for it's time and a cinematic marvel. :) Highly recommended from me!
