Synopsis:
The Vatican sends a priest to verify
some miracles, performed by a woman who has been nominated for sainthood.
Brian's
Rating: C+ : The movie is about a catholic priest who is starting to
question his faith. His job is to investigate claims of miracles with the
eventual goal of certifying them.
The miracle in question is that of statue that cries blood. The local parish
thinks that the woman who is portrayed in the statue should be considered for
sainthood. As mentioned before we follow the priest as he struggles with his
own faith while investigating this alleged miracle.
The reason this is important to the priest is that it speaks to the very core of
his faith issue. Through investigating a past alleged miracle he discovered it
to instead be demonic. With his hopes shattered, he withdrew from active duty.
This new miracle give him the chance to restore his faith in miracles, but
understandably, he is skeptical.
The movie offers an interesting perspective on the proceedings that go into
making a Roman-Catholic priest. It also is very up-front with the politics
inside the catholic church. Priests and Bishops are portrayed as normal people
with normal reactions.
It was an interesting story, but it fell short from being a recommendation from
me. At times I cared about the characters, but at other times I simply didn't.
Overall, I think it suffered most of all from being too slow moving for my
taste. Not enough happened, and not enough conflict. Its a decent story, but
in the age where you have hundreds of movies to queue up, I wouldn't put this
one on the top.
