Thomas Jane, the star of the latest HBO comedy, Hung, has a very nice performance in this Stephen King thriller. The Mist was the first audio book I ever heard/read. It was creepy and scared the crap out of me every time fog appeared. The movie is solid throughout with good scares, good tension and good writing/acting throughout.
Frank Darabont is a fantastic writer, penning one of the best-reviewed films on this site, The Shawshank Redemption. Here, he is a little over his head. The Green Mile pushed him to the limits on writing suspense films and in his own words, he wrote the ending of this film "to please Stephen King". He should have thought of the audience first, as I'm sure the studio suggested. I'm a fan of endings that aren't fit to the norm, but this one is ridiculous. I won't spoil anything here, but I'll say without the ending this falls as a B-, just barely a recommendation. It is THAT bad.
