The
Freak's Rating: C+ : I settled into my chair in my home theater,
thoroughly prepared for a palette cleanser in The Love Guru. Every now and
again you need to remind yourself what true cinematic garbage is...erego keeping
your palette clean for accurate evaluation of other films. The opening
five minutes of the film confirmed my suspicions, but then I laughed, then
laughed again. Ultimately I was surprised by the film's inability to suck
as badly as it should have.
Now I'm not saying you should rush
out and buy this film. I am saying, however, that if you are a fan of Mike
Myers you will probably enjoy this one. You will have body fluid jokes,
midget jokes, visual tricks that defy logic, racial stereotypical jokes,
bumbling idiot jokes, gorgeous girl who'd never look at you in reality suddenly
liking you jokes...and believe it or not animal humping jokes. But all
that fits with Myers' style and will make you chuckle, at least a little bit.
Acting is decent by everyone, pulling
off some of the lame jokes simply because of their comic delivery. Justin
Timberlake continues to impress me with his acting and made me laugh out loud in
nearly every scene he was in. Writing is typical SNL style, with some
incredibly funny jokes and some that generate no laughter whatsoever. On
par with only Goldmember out of Myers' previous projects, The Love Guru does
have a few laughs and just barely slides under the recommendation area. A
better script and funnier jokes could have made it an easy recommendation.
