Synopsis:
In modern-day Saudi
Arabia, American
families live in
military compounds
that are fenced off
and essentially are
their own towns.
Day to day life is
as normal as it
could be and on one
of these days,
during a community
baseball game,
suicide bombers
attack.
Casualties were
extremely high and
therefore an FBI
team from America
was dispatched to
investigate.
The Kingdom starts
by showing the
attack and the
effect it has on
friends of the
casualties back home
and follows their
investigation.
The Freak's
Rating: B : Oh
I can't wait for the
HD DVD vs Blu Ray
war to be finalized.
Though it is close
now with Warner's
defection, Paramount
and Universal are
still being very
stubborn.
Because of these two
bull-headed studios,
I was unable to
review the film in
high definition, as
it is only released
on HD DVD and not
the better format,
Blu Ray. Still
the sound was sharp
and picture quality
better than average
so I'll save the
letter writing to
the studios for
something more
important.
Jamie Foxx plays
Ronald, the lead FBI
investigator.
His team is made up
of Grant (Chris
Cooper), Janet
(Jennifer Garner)
and Adam (Jason
Bateman).
Their job - to
investigate to the
best of their
ability the
reasoning for the
attack and bring the
attackers to
justice. Their
obstacle - the red
tape drawn by the
Saudi government
limiting what they
can do to basic
investigation.
It isn't long before
a good enough
rapport between
Ronald and the head
Saudi agent exists
to allow them access
beyond their initial
limitations, but the
quest to bring
people to justics
isn't easy.
All of the stars do
a great job in their
roles.
Jennifer Garner has
never done good work
in film if you ask
me, but lately with
this film and
Juno, she is
growing on me.
You may have heard
about the last half
hour of this film.
It is incredibly
intense and
engrossing. I
won't spoil anything
for you, I'll only
say that the last 30
minutes are worthy
of the rental on
their own. It
isn't as politically
powerful as it
should be, though it
does have a VERY
telling last minute
of footage.
The irony of middle
eastern war is
thrust intensely in
your face and
everyone should
digest it.
Brian's Rating: B : This is a film about an FBI investigation in
Saudi Arabia (The Kingdom) after an terrorist attack. It is a little bit
CSI-like with more action. The movie was entertaining, but it was nothing
I have a burning desire to see again. Even so, it was better than watching
anything that is currently on television.
Angie's Rating: B+ : I am not going
to pretend that I have a clue on how the politics between the F.B.I. and the
Israeli army are. I guess I have an idea, but it doesn't matter... as long as
you don't over analyze it. I really liked the acting and the relationships
between the characters. It was one of the better movies that I have rented in
awhile. Definitely a good rental!
Sebastian's Rating: B+ : it had good action, that's mainly what it's all
about
