Synopsis:
Spanning over one thousand years, and
three parallel stories, The Fountain is a story of love, death, spirituality,
and the fragility of our existence in this world.

While the rest of the world was seeing Hugh
Jackman bearing claws in X-Men: Woverine, I was
watching him in The Fountain. Being a fan of
the sci-fi genre, as well as circle-of-life
metaphors, this fit right into what I like in a
story.
The story was good, it was not straight forward,
and leaves it to the viewer to determine what to
do with the abstract message. I would say this
movie was spiritual for sure, but I would not
call it religious. There is an underlying theme
of life, death, and rebirth, as well as a
paranormal theme of destiny.
This is not your usual light sci-fi action flick
and instead inspires thought. The film uses
very little dialog, and instead relies on heavy
use of imagery.
Shortcomings from the movie are that this
abstract style sometimes bordered on the edge of
too confusing to figure out, and also the heavy
imagery was often too slow paced.
I like this style of movie though, so I call it
a good one that I recommend.
