 Synopsis:
In the Griffin family
living room, the family is gathered around one
another participating in the true American
pastime...watching television. After an
electrical outage and brief laughter over the
idea of lighting candles and reading, Peter
decides to tell his family a story to pass the
time. The story he tells is the story of
Star Wars...as only Peter Griffin could do it.
From the initial taking of
Princess Leia (Lois) by Darth Vader (Stewie) to
the wonderful scene where the Millennium Falcon,
piloted by Han Solo (Peter), rescues Luke
(Chris) during his assault on the Death Stars
solitary weakness, it is a fantastic homage to
the greatness of Star Wars.
The
story Peter tells is a true example of the
comical genius that is The Family Guy.
Scenes are directly lifted from the George Lucas
masterpiece and retold brilliantly with just the
correct injection of sarcasm and pop cultural
reference. The movie/episode isn't created
to pull in fans to the show. The fans of
the show are insanely loyal, and this is a treat
creator Seth McFarlane has created for them.
For those who don't know, The Family Guy was
actually cancelled from Fox, then brought back
after many letter-writing campaigns by the fans.
The Freak's
Rating: B+ : I
know, I know, The Family Guy is a television
show and not a movie. Well, normally I
would agree, but Blue Harvest has been marketed
as a feature film for the series and is
therefore (to my delight) as reviewable as any
other. It was an hour long special for the
series and was just released on DVD.
Star Wars Episode VI: Return
Of The Jedi was given the working title "Blue
Harvest". Working titles are basically
just junk to hide the filmmakers, cast and set
from paparazzi overrun during production.
Working titles disappear within days after the
wrap (though most know what's going on anyway)
and the real title is plastered on. So
that is where the title came from.
I can't imagine a Star
Wars fan or a Family Guy fan not loving this.
Though I don't believe you have to be a fan of
both to enjoy it, it certainly helps. So
for a limited few (yours truly included), this
is comedic gold. For people who aren't
fans of the show or the Star Wars franchise,
consider another comedy such as Superbad.
Sebastian's Rating: B+ :
this movies was too short number one, and the reason i am seriously
complaining about this is because i bought this movie right, for $30 (au) witch
is about double USA money, but still i dont earn much money but i thought i
should add it to my full family guy collection. i did laugh alot with this movie
but what im really upset about is they didnt just put them all into one dvd at
once, so itll be like over 100 minutes, because even though they havent finished
the ones coming up, i dont want to have to pay $30 for each one coming up, i
want to spend $30 for them all, so i think we are getting a little ripped off so
thats why it's in the B section
Brian's Rating: A :
I might be cheating on this one since I watched the episode as aired on
television, but what the heck. Hilarious! Family Guy cracks me up, and I have
not seen a Star Wars spoof this good since Space Balls. This probably is not
worth an actual A on the scale, but what can I say, I am a sucker for Star Wars.
