The Freak's Rating: D- : I should have been able to predict how awful this one would be, but somehow I bought into the potential, just like anyone else who saw it. Frank Langella is a phenomenal actor and somehow kept me intrigued by his simple, and obviously short on screen-time, performance. It alone carried me into adding this to my Netflix queue.

Acting outside of Langella is pathetic here, especially by the "lead", Cameron Diaz. Diaz should seriously hang it up on trying to play a good-looking character. She is old, she has hit the wall hard and caking on makeup only makes her look worse. Let is be a message to all you young girls out there, the sun can destroy your skin. She is at the absolute bottom of her acting ability here, sporting one of the most inconsistently awful southern accents on film. She makes Sandra Bullock's performance in The Blind Side actually seem as if she did deserve the Academy Award!

The major problems, outside of Diaz' performance, lie within the script. The Box attempts to be far too clever, puzzling its audience so much that they tend not to care when the final reveal is shown. SPOILER ALERT!: there is but one saving grace here that keeps this film out of a complete failure, the final few minutes where Cameron dies. Oh, what a glorious feeling. I thought for a minute about rating it higher just so everyone else who takes my recommendations seriously could enjoy watching her character's life extinguished as much as I did.

This is a garbage film that will quickly escalate to the 2-3am time blocks on Cinemax. Don't even tune in at that point.
