Synopsis:

The true story of Tony Fingleton, a young man from a troubled family who found the inner strength to become a champion. Always overshadowed in his father's eyes by his brothers, it is only when Tony displays an extraordinary swimming talent that he feels he has a shot at winning his father's heart.

Brian's Rating: B+ : I liked this movie.  It is based on the true story of an Australian swimmer who succeeded despite an alcoholic father who was everything that was the opposite of supportive.

This is the type of movie that if done poorly can bog down in character back story.  The director did a good job of keeping this boredom at bay and keeping the viewer interested.

Another thing I liked about the movie is that it strayed enough from the common cliche sports movie formula to lend it more realism.  Sure, the scaffolding of the common sports success story is still there, but it breaks away from it enough to be unique.

The film feature a bunch of actors I have never heard of, but I think every one of them does an excellent job in their role.

So why only a B+ with all this praise?  Mostly it is because for me it lacked the feeling that I would be incurring an emotional loss if I had to pause if the kids are screaming--ya know, the feeling you get while watching Dark Knight.
