Synopsis:
Based on Stephen King's Short story
"The Body", "Stand By Me" tells the tale of Gordie Lachance, a writer who looks
back on his preteen days when he and three close friends went on their own
adventure to find the body of a kid their age who had gone missing and presumed
dead. The stakes are upped when the bad kids in town are closely tailing - and
it becomes a race to see who'll be able to recover the body first.
Michael's Rating: A :
I know that it's an older movie, but I bought it recently and
have watched it a bunch of times. A true classic in my book!!
The Freak's
Rating: A : Once in a while a story
comes along that can capture your imagination
and perfectly summarize a time period in your
life. Stand By Me is such a film. I
must have seen this film fifty times growing up.
Filmmakers perfectly captured what it is to be a
boy, preteen. The self-loathing of Vern,
the second child syndrome of Gordy, the
cockiness through humor of Teddy and the
maturity of Chris are all perfectly portrayed by
their respective actors. Each of us has a
piece of each of them and relation to the
characters on screen was simple and effective.
Following the boys on their adventure is like
growing up. Hearing stories around a
campfire and getting into juvenile discussions
over who would win in fights between Superman
and Mighty Mouse are part of being a kid.
Having a master of literature, Stephen King,
assist in the screenplay adaptation was a stroke
of genius on Sony's part and this film flows
beautifully. Dialogue is a little periodic
and over the top at times, keeping it from
perfection, but this is a welcome part to any
movie collection and deserving of repeat
viewings.
Sebastian's
Rating: A+ : brilliant movie. a story about
friendship and compassion. I only saw this movie
a couple of weeks ago whilst my computor broke
down. only a couple of years older than these
boys, i realise how imporrtant friends are in
life, and how you should stick with them.
This movie is brilliant in everyway. its
depressing, sad and emotional, exciting and
engaging, and all together just a greta movie,
one of the best of all times.
