The Freak's Rating: C- : I am a firm believer that Kate Beckinsale could be one of the most beautiful people...ever. That belief did hurt this film, but I'd love to hear the opinion of someone who doesn't feel the same way. Writing is very sharp here, with dialogue very honest throughout the film. Performances are very well done by all involved, especially by the underappreciated Sam Rockwell and Olivia Thirlby, a newcomer who lights up her character's scenes.

There is some real potential here, but the casting of Beckinsale is a glaring mistake by the casting director. Her talent is unquestionable, but as it always is, it is overpowered by her beauty. For a small town, there is zero chance a woman this good looking goes as unnoticed as we are to believe she does. The believability therefore jumps right out the window in all her scenes.
