What an awesome movie! I cannot believe that I
was not more pressed to see this sooner.
Written, Directed, and produced by M. Night
Shamalan, it makes me want to see "The
Happening" even though it was received poorly.
I have got to say that the directing in this
film was especially amazing. There were a
couple scenes that were masterfully done, and
even knowing nothing about film directing, I can
appreciate the genius behind the aura that was
presented.
It reminded me a lot of what I came to
appreciate with Alfred Hitchcock when I saw old
reruns on TV as a boy. I do not quite
understand how it works, but there is just
something masterful when a director can inspire
fear by forcing your imagination to run wild
rather than presenting you with an inadequate
picture of what may be happening.
A scene where the younger brother walks up the
stairs to investigate if the house is safe. You
see him back lit against a window that is
streaming in light through a curtain that has
stars and crescent moons cut into it. The
camera remains motionless as you hear his
footsteps slowly cross the floor above. The
seconds tick on as the camera does not follow
him, and this creates one of the best suspense
moments I have ever witnessed in a film.
An excellent film. Its been a week, and I am
still drooling over it. You simply must see
this if you have not done so already. I can
thank my brother-in-law for having it in his
personal library as I trolled for things to do
on slow nights on vacation.
