SPOILER WARNING: This is an interesting movie that sort of reminds
me of a long running short film (80 minutes). It has the feel of a good student
film, although better made than that. It it clearly has an unpolished feel to
it, and does not seem professional grade.
The small spoiler is that this film is the time loop that it is based around.
The movie takes the main character, Lola, through 3 alternate realities with
different outcomes based upon 1 or 2 seconds difference in her speed. This
concept is cool, I always am intrigued when plot lines revolve around time
travel type stuff. Additionally, she has an unexplained ability to break glass
with her scream.
When I first started watching, I did not know the movie had a time loop concept,
and so the first sequence of her running through the city seemed terrible drawn
out, boring, and pointless. It was only after the 2nd and 3rd reality where you
began to notice that the scenes were not pointless and are in fact earmarking
small differences in her time frame. These result in larger differences in
outcomes. As she runs, she comes in contact with random individuals and we see
a quick still series of still shots portraying the future of that person. If
you pay attention, you will see it change drastically.
In summary, I sort of like the alternate reality thing that happens based upon a
1 or 2 second difference in time on the staircase at the beginning of her run.
It is intriguing, and hence it gets a loose recommendation from me. However, it
does have some problems. It is not filmed well, the transfer to BR was done
horribly bad, the acting is not very good, and the incessant techno soundtrack
will drive you nuts. It is not for everybody, but if you like the indy film
scene, and subtitles do not bother you, then it is worth a see.
