Synopsis:
Reservoir Dogs tells the tale of a
bank robbery gone awry. After a near-perfect planning of the caper, all
seems to fallout and we are thrown immediately into the chaos of the main
characters dealing with it. Having about 80% of the style of Pulp Fiction,
the dialogue is sharp and witty, drawing you into the personalities of the
characters in a fantastic way. Tarantino, playing Mr. Brown in the film,
has one of the funniest rants about Madonna's Like A Virgin that somehow
convinces you to see his point.
The
Freak's Rating: A : Quite often a movie hits theaters, is
greeted with critical praise and never finds an audience in mainstream America.
One of those films is Reservoir Dogs. Due to the major success of
Pulp Fiction, in 1994 audiences were clamoring for
more Quentin Tarantino material. Tarantino was heralded as a writer for
the ages and soon everything he had penned was re-released for all to enjoy.
Reservoir Dogs is a historical must
for anyone who likes style in their films. Tarantino is the Godfather of
dialogue-induced fictionary tales, creating the genre with Dogs and Pulp.
So grasshopper, absorb this one as a true history lesson should be ingested.
Brian's
Rating: A- : This is a good movie that goes unheralded due to the fact that
it falls in the shadow of Pulp Fiction. Nevertheless, the unique directing
style of Tarentino is evident in the film, and the presentation of an otherwise
vanilla bank robbery story is a masterpiece. A couple of the cast from Pulp
Fiction are previewed in the film, and like Pulp Fiction, the characters and the
dialog make the film. I do like the film quite alot, and have watched it
several times, however its not quite in the ranks of Pulp Fiction.
