The Freak's Rating: B+ : Any time that DC Comics precedes a movie title, your hesitance to see the movie should kick in. Haven't we seen the superhero comic book story before? Yes, but not like this. Red pulls a page out of The Expendables' playbook and send CIA legends into the forefront of a new storyline, giving audiences a new take on an old-school story.
Bruce Willis stars as Frank Moses, an ex-CIA agent who along with his friends has been tagged as RED (Retired Extremely Dangerous). The mystery of the film is to find out why and off we go! Acting is nothing special here, but everyone plays their parts as they should, with just enough cheese and predictability to make each character likable to audiences. Mary Louise Parker is the only thing that brings the film down with just a hair too much annoyance to make you care whether she lives or dies
With a solid script for anyone who would consider Red to be a worthy expenditure of their movie-watching time allotment, audiences will be entertained enough here for me to recommend it highly. Just a few more tweaks and a little less comic-book-scripting the film creeps into A territory for sure. Still, it had enough moments where I was incredibly entertained to make me give it a run again should I find the opportunity.
Angie's Rating: B+ : This is an action comedy with a stylish twist. I found it highly entertaining. Bruce is my favorite action star. His delivery of sarcastic humor is in my "soft spot" if you will for a motive to see a film..... no matter how small the part. If this is your favorite part of the characters he plays, you won't be disappointed. However, John Malkovich's performance as Martin Boggs is the best part of this movie! Hilarious. He's the reason I would highly recommend this movie to the hard to please customer at the video store.
