Synopsis:
In Thailand, John Rambo is living
peacefully capturing snakes and transporting people and cargo in an old boat.
When a group of Christian missionaries asks to be transported to the war zone in
Burma to help the locals, the reluctant Rambo only accepts when Sarah Miller
presents her point of view about their humanitarian mission. Rambo leaves the
group in the requested location, but the village where they are working is
attacked by the sadistic army of Major Pa Tee Tint, the locals are slaughtered
and the missionaries are abducted. Later a member of their church meets Rambo
and asks him to transport a group of mercenaries hired to rescue the
missionaries. You can guess what might happen next!
The Freak's Rating: B- :
Long
ago, HBO used to offer a sneak preview of films. One of my earlier
film-loving memories is of just such an "event". At 2am on a night long
ago, HBO premiered their sneak preview of Rambo: First Blood Part II. I
snuck downstairs to watch it. I had this method of turning the bass all
the way down and setting the sound on the television just so that my parents on
the opposite side of the wall would not hear it. I watched in awe at the
violence and brutality of a commando taking down person after person with
explosive-tipped arrows and brute strength. At that age I wasn't looking
for much of a storyline, and I'm sure if I were to watch it again I wouldn't see
one. Rambo was about violence and action, period.
The creators of the fourth
installment in the franchise must have been up watching it with me.
Sylvester Stallone reprises his role as John Rambo, a commando whose inner
demons have turned him into a killing machine that knows nothing else.
Though aging on film as well as life, Stallone still has the "hope I don't meet
him in a dark alley" quality. He is believable as Rambo, still kicking ass
at this age, simply because that is pretty much all Stallone has done on screen
(kick ass).
There are a few problems with the
movie, starting with some of the most un-Christian missionaries I've ever seen
on film. Harboring hatred and degrading Rambo as a "boat-man" is so far
out of character that the writer should be punched square in the jaw.
Second, there is little to no development of the enemy of the film. I
wanted to really hate this guy so that when he gets his in the end (which we all
know he will), it will feel fantastic.
Flaws aside, Rambo is entertaining as
hell. Some of the most violent shots I've ever seen are in this flick and
it flirts with an NC-17 for violence, sparing not a woman or child in its
gruesome exploitation. For fans of the series who don't look for solidity
with the storyline, etc... they will love this movie.
Sebastian's Rating: B+ : only in my teens, i still am the biggest fan of
toy story! and whoa i couldnt believe it when i went to the video store and saw
toy story one and two in the same disc! so i rented it out straight away. i came
home and put in number one, but it didn't work! i tried on my playstation and
the other dvd player, it didn't work! and neither did number two! i was
godsmacked. so we went back to the video store the next day and as it happened
there were no more toy story's in the store! oh i was devestated. so as mum an i
were searching the isles my mum picked out rambo. now i know what you are
thinking, my mum watching an r rated movie, please she gets scared from finding
nemo! so i told her it's not a movie for her... except after she rented it out.
she liked the old rambos but i didn't particularly thing this was the movie for
her.
so yes i know what you were thinking, i came into the store with the most
beautiful movie ever and came out with the most violent.
All my friends said this movie rocked, bacause of all the violence. i love
violence but i didn't think this movie was gonna be any good, i though it would
be crap, i only liked rambo first blood and the following ones weren't the best,
i guess they were ok. In the book rambo died and they should of left it like
that. i changed my mind after watching the newest installment.
The movie starts with a couple of people being tortured with grenades by rebels,
with a pretty sick game, you could tell this story was gonna be bloody. As i was
sitting through the first 15 minutes i could feel the tention. this movie brings
back that tention you don't see much days today in action movies. It wasn't a
suspense, but it was a tention that something boody was about to happen, that
sooner or later there'll be a bang and boom come in the rebels. sooner or later
that happened.
for the next hour it was fun to watch john rambo ripped of peopels necks, range
some rebels and shoot down a gazilion people with a turret.
so yes, this movie is violent, so i don't reccomened you see it unless you want
to see blood, brains and crap everywhere.
If ur a sissy, go and watch toy story :). if u like violence and blood and gore!
rent this movie out!
