 Synopsis:
Johnny
Depp reprises his role as Captain Jack Sparrow
in the third installment, Pirates Of The
Caribbean: At World's End. Now if you saw
the second one you'll remember you were left on
an amazing cliffhanger with Jack's friends
preparing to go on an adventure to rescue Jack
from "the ends of the earth". The film
picks up where the last one left off, the crew
signing up the infamous Captain Barbossa from
the first film, who captained the Black Pearl.
The entire crew travels, along with a witchy
woman (cue the Eagles' music), through challenge
after challenge until they finally find Jack.
The Freak's
Rating: D- : Hollywood
has some formulas I don't believe it will ever
relinquish. The most common one pertaining
to this review is that if it makes over 100
million, make a trilogy if at all possible.
The "Pirates" franchise racked up nearly three
times that on the first flick, so off the studio
heads went to convince the creative team to pump
them out like hotcakes. As an audience
member we are usually subjected to stretched out
storylines, cliffhangers and ultimately being
bored to tears with the franchise at the end.
Nowhere does this formula and result show up
better than in the "Pirates" franchise.
This franchise has been
overdone in every way imaginable. Every
character has been explained to the point that I
couldn't care less about any of them.
Villains aren't scary anymore and the special
effects are so obviously fake that you can't
even look at them with the slightest ounce of
awe. We have had this filth shoved down
our throats. The first one went down just
fine, the second was a little hard to swallow,
but with the third one I am gagging. Keira
Knightley continues to only play women with
british accents in films. Orlando Bloom
apparently must have a sword to take a part.
Every other cast member including Johnny Depp is
incredibly annoying and I just couldn't wait for
this to be over. With a good score, set
design, costumes and audio track I can't fail
it...but BOY do I want to. Pirates 3
should be avoided at all costs. I use the
second installment as an audio test as the Blu
Ray disc captures the sound in an amazing way,
but I will never put this in my player again.
I suggest you pretend the series ended with #2.

Chris's
Rating: C- : Considering I hadn't seen the first two films, it wasn't as
awful as the Freak makes it out to be, although, to be honest, it was still bad.
Try as I could, I just couldn't suspend disbelief.
