Synopsis:
A young thirty-something couple goes
on holiday to the Caribbean. One of the fun activities available to them is
scuba diving off a reef several miles out. Due to a faulty head count taken by
the dive boat crew, the couple is left behind in the open ocean. They find
themselves drifting endlessly for hours on end, facing dehydration, saltwater
sickness, jellyfish stings, and sharks! Although a boat and a large ship pass by
within the couple's view, neither sees them, and they are not discovered missing
until the following morning when a member of the dive boat crew discovers their
gear on the boat, and their hotel manager discovers they never returned to their
room. Frantically a search is mounted by plane, boat, and helicopter, looking
for the missing couple.
Angie's Rating: F :
This fim is based on a true story... that doesn't mean it has to be
crap! That is this sites' motto right, "keeping friends and family from
watching crap one review at a time." Here's my public service for the week,
bringing this review down where it needs to be! This movie relys on everyone's
fear of the unknown beneath the surface. That having been said, it never
delivers a scare or any kind of climatic scene. It leaves you anticipating but
never delivers. It's bordem.... all the way through. I could have made this
film. By the way, if you are only going to have two actors for a majority of
the film or one (ie. Cast Away) they had better be darn good ones. This movie
was awful. I would rather go sit in on another lecture on ancient art history
than watch this again.
Chana's Rating: B- :
Well, it's so real...but slow... you have to use your mind, so be ready to chill
and just wait til the end...
The Freak's
Rating: C- : I would agree entirely
with the average rating (obviously). Open
Water was scary. Though trying to
capitalize on the Blair Witch reality horror
flick phenomenon, OW does fail in some ways.
Suspense isn't built up nearly as well as it
needed to be in order for the ending to be
effective. The fear of being left alone
was conveyed in a relatable way, but illogical
as to how the crew could miss it. Tanks
are counted and equipment monitored much more
closely when I went than the way this film shows
it. Overall, this is an ok scare, but
nothing incredible.
