Brian's Rating: B+ : 2 was bad.  Real bad.  Due to that fact I never even considered going to the third movie in the franchise.  Based on some good references from friends and reviewers I respect I was finally coaxed into putting it on my queue where it sat for about a year before I finally let it rise to the top.  I am glad I did.  The movie is like night and day compared to the 2nd one.

It returns to the root of what it should have been all along.  A well grounded action movie with complex, but not utterly ridiculous, plans to accomplish strike missions, or extraction missions in a short period of time.   There were stunts, and deception that you would expect in a Mission Impossible plot, but they were not so over the top as to blow plausibility completely out of the water.

The movie stays focused on Ethan Hunt and while supported well from his team, he is always the center of the story.  It flowed better, was not nearly as confusing as the 2nd, and kept a steady flow of action sequences to keep me interested the whole way.

Thumbs-up on a good action movie.  Too bad this had to follow the 2nd movie, else I think it would have done a lot better in the box office.

The Freak's Rating: C- : This retread was just that, even having to pull in such acting talents as Hoffman as the villain and still falling flat as unoriginal and uninspired.  J.J. Abrams does a nice job weaving this one together, but for the most part it is the same old, same old here.  I did really enjoy the opening sequence with Keri Russell, but ultimately I can't imagine myself watching it again.
