I like this movie well enough to see it a second
time. I recall after seeing it the first time
that it is something I would probably be able to
pick up more details the second time around.
However, although I was concentrating, and knew
the reveal this time, I still struggled with
fuzziness on some of the plot points. Either
the movie is too smart for me, or it has some
gaps in the storyline and/or directing. Either
way, its enough for me to rate it just below the
A category.
The intriguing thing about thi smovie is that it
is split up into chronological segments anywhere
from 2 minutes to 10 minutes, and then those
segments are show in reverse. This is a neat
effect, and keeps you on your toes, and also is
an original way to have a reveal at the end
(i.e. the beginning of the chronology). Pulp
Fiction and Go also have segmented chronology,
but there were fewer blocks that were split up,
and therefore comes off entirely in a different
style. Memento is trying to place the viewer
into a direct perspective of the main character,
who has no short term memory. I think this was
interesting, and for the most part well done.
Somebody told me that the DVD had a special
feature where you could watch the segments in
chronological order. I watched the Blu Ray, and
it did not offer this feature. Maybe it doesn't
exist on the DVD either. I probably would have
tried this if it was a reality.
