Angie's
Rating: D : I was at ISU visiting my sister
at college this weekend and decided to catch a
movie with her. In true college student form,
we showed up at the theater without planning and
just decided to see the one that was showing
first. It was between HS musical 3 and Max
Payne, and I figured Mark Wahlberg should be
entertaining in an action film and had no desire
to see the other. I only give this story to let
you know that I had no idea what this movie was
really about... only that there was a video game
with this character in it. That Max Payne was a
cop out for vengence for the death of his wife
and son. The cinematography was well done and
creatively shot. I thought the plot line drug
and it didn't draw me in, with this formula of
film and foundation for plot, I was incredibly
disappointed. Possibly if I had a background on
the character before I had seen the film I would
think differently?? I'm not sure. Mark
Wahlberg and supporting cast did a decent job of
acting. The only one I had a problem with was
Mila Kunis (That 70's show) because of her well
known character, Jackie Burkhart, but she was
adaquet and I was able to see past it. Overall,
I wouldn't recommend it as a movie to see in
theaters or buy when it comes out. It was a
filler of my time at best. Unless you're a
super fan of Max Payne, I'm sure it'll be a
disappointment to you too.

Rating: F : Angie may be a tad kind here.
Olga Kirilenko (of Quantum Of Solace) is the
only bright spot in the movie with her brief 10
minutes of screen time. The script is
horrendously predictable with zero originality.
Wahlberg and the rest of the cast meander
through the film in a haze of acting mediocrity.
Mila Kunis, adorable in films like Forgetting
Sarah Marshall, is somehow supposed to come off
like a tough girl here, all the while her
brunette locks say she belongs in a much
prettier role. For a film based upon a
video game, Max Payne struggles to integrate any
of the elements that made the game cool, mostly
a Matrix-esque slow motion technique. This
is shown in one single sequence and is too
obviously thrown in for good measure. This
is absolute junk.
