Synopsis:

In the 80s in Little Odessa, the Ukrainian immigrant Yuri Orlov (Nicolas Cage) decides to change his economical life and becomes an arms dealer with his brother Vitaly Orlov (Jared Leto). His business of gunrunner supplying illegal weapons in disturbed areas of the planet increases with the end of the Cold War, and Yuri bribes a Russian general to sell most of his arsenal.  Detective Jack Valentine (Ethan Hawke) is hot on Yuri's trail, trying to make peace in himself that Yuri is a necessary evil.

Brian's Rating: C+ : It is very hard to buy into Nicholas Cage as the protagonist in this one when he is a gun runner.  The movie attempts to make you see his point of view, but its terribly weak, and consequently its hard to be interested in his character.  I am not saying the protagonist always has to be a good guy, I am just saying that if he is a bad guy, then it needs to be done right.  Heat, and Blow are 2 recent movies I have seen that have an interesting and captivating bad guy protagonist.

Sometimes the movie was interesting and kept me wanting to know what is happening next.  Some times I couldn't care less and was just waiting for it to advance.  Overall, the story was interesting, but it was not a great movie.

The Freak's Rating: B- : I have to give this a little more credit than Brian.  It does fall under a recommendation, but a conditional one.  If you are fine with a political thriller and interested in the viewpoint of gunrunning, you will enjoy it.  If you want a strictly action picture, skip it.  Cage does a decent job in the role and I was interested throughout, so for me it just barely makes a recommendation.

Sebastian's Rating: B+ : wait i loved this movie. it's on of those movies that you can't watch all the time but it's certainly a movie you cn watch then and there. i saw this movie when it came out so as usual i can't review this movie too deeply but all i can say is that it wasn't too bad.

im going to give it a B+ because i dont think it deserves to be in the c catergory, that's just to low.
