Synopsis:
20 years later,
McClane is nearly
out of action.
On a random call in
the middle of the
night, McClane is
sent to pick up a
potential security
threat, hacker Matt
Ferrell (Justin
Long).
Bringing Ferrell to
the FBI turns far
more difficult than
expected as McClane
suddenly has to dust
off his gun and try
to save the day
again.
Ferrell unknowingly
participated in
creating lines of
code to initiate a "Firesale".
A firesale in retail
means "everything
must go". In
hacker terminology,
a firesale is the
complete
technological
liquidation of
something, in this
case the United
States. The
lead bad guy is
played by Thomas
Gabriel (played by
Timothy Olyphant of
Deadwood).
Gabriel plans to
destroy the country
that turned its back
on him.
McClane along with
wise-cracking
Ferrell sets off to
bring down Gabriel's
crew and foil their
plan.
The Freak's
Rating: C : John McClane has an
appeal to the
public. About
20 years ago, the
original Die Hard
shot into theaters.
A divorced cop came
to visit his wife on
Christmas Eve and
waited for her in
the parking garage
of Nakatomi Plaza,
at least until he
heard gun shots.
John sprang into
action and what
ensued was some of
the best action
sequences filmed in
years. Though
I would challenge
that Alan Rickman
was overlooked as
the true magic of
the movie that
captivated
audiences, Bruce
Willis pulled off a
charm and
likeability that fed
the masses just what
their action-junkie
sides wanted.
There isn't much
more to get from the
character of John
McClane. He is
rough and tough, but
not unbelievably
durable (he is shown
with injuries in
every film).
He is mad at the
world he lives in
but realized he
created it himself.
And yes, he knows he
is too old to be
doing what he's
doing. Justin
Long, who most know
as the Mac guy from
Mac vs PC
commercials does an
adequate job as a
sidekick. If
you like Long,
search for the
short-lived
television show Ed.
It is one of my
favorite shows ever
created.
Gabriel's chief
enforcer Mai (played
by Maggie Q) is a
strong and beautiful
girl who steals
every scene she's
in. Her fight
scenes with McClane
are done extremely
well. Timothy
Olyphant is very
poorly cast as the
villain and never
comes off as scary
or cruel. They
just needed someone
with a little more
substance. You
need to hate the bad
guy!
Composed mostly of
action sequence
after action
sequence, Live Free
Or Die Hard is about
what you'd expect
out of a fourth
movie in a series.
The movie is fun,
but it falls short
of being anything
memorable. The
first Die Hard is by
far the best of the
series and for me
this one falls just
short of a good
grade. If you
are an action fiend
and just looking for
entertainment, this
may work for you.
It is a good ride as
far as the action
goes, but some of
the sequences are
flat out ridiculous.
McClane would need a
masters degree in
physics to calculate
some of the moves he
pulls off on foot,
in a car and believe
it or not physically
on the outside of a
fighter jet!
For me the action
just couldn't carry
it.
Sebastian's Rating: B : this movie
was ok. i saw it with a friend and i loved the action, even though they were
unrealistic, and the storyline could have been a bit better comparing this to
other die hard movies, but i did enjoy it so that doesn't stop me from giving
this a B
Lacrecia's
Rating: A : I thought this show was very entertaining. Yeah agree that
the stunts were quite unbelievable, but hey it is just a movie that is intended
for pure entertainment, not a reality show. I left the movie theatre feeling
extremly exhausted due to the intensive action from almost at the beginning to
the end. I would recommend this to anyone that loves a good action movie. In
fact, I bought this movie for my husband this last Xmas to watch on his 65" DLP
TV.
Angie's Rating: B
: I guess I should start off by saying that this movie was a LOT of fun. I went
into the theater not wanting or expecting anything except for things to blow up,
the classic snide sarcastic humor from McClane, and at least one "Yippee Ki Yay
M*F*". If you would have asked me that day what I would have rated it at, it
may have been A+, because I was so thrilled to be completely emmersed in
mindless action sequences and taken for a ride. However, as much fun as these
films are the jet sequence was a bit over the top. I mean the car crashing into
the helicopter was enough.... The bad guy behind everything was not strong
enough for this film (I felt the McClanes' daughter could have taken care of him
herself) All in all I think that "tech" criminals are just not a great match
for McClane. There just isn't enough banter between the bad guys and McClane
and too much whining coming from Matt Ferrel. The only line I really remember
between the bad guy and McClane is "Your a timex watch in a digital age McClane"
and "I'm coming for you" There aren't any memorable ones between Ferrel and
McClane. In hind site, I am bummed that the movie makers dialed down the banter
and tipped the crazy scale on action sequences. I guess you could say that I
love the Die Hard movies just as much for the great lines as for the action. My
applause for Bruce Willis though... he can still kick butt. :)
