Synopsis:

The Freak's
Rating: D :
Not a ton to say about this one, as that is
pretty much the way the film starts and
finishes...with little to say. Hoffman
plays an obvious loser with zero lust for life
and a half-witted father who never seems to say
the right thing. I found myself not caring
if he did well. He blew his marriage,
wasted his life on a job that evolves (yet never
evolved with it), etc... Even the great
Dustin Hoffman can't make this guy that
likeable.
Emma
Thompson is always wonderful and doesn't
dissapoint with her performance here. The
real problem is that the writing, especially the
dialogue, is dry and boring.
The
acting is decent, the script mediocre and at the
end I felt like I should have just popped in a
classic instead of wasting a couple hours on
this one. In what was a decent start at a
love story, the film fell flat. The
chemistry between the leads seems non-existent
and the entire love story seems incredibly
contrived. The performances save it from
failing, but just barely.
