Synopsis:

The project is a drama based on the American Girl doll line and will center on Kit Kittredge, a young woman who grows up in the early years of the Great Depression.

The Freak's Rating: C+ : My wife educated me quickly on the American Girl series, enough so that I didn't go into this film completely blind about its basis.  Abigail Breslin is cute, we get it Hollywood.  Now be careful casting her or we'll surely become quite sick of her adorable little face.

Kit Kittridge is an aspiring newspaper reporter, something I was growing up as well.  I read many Hardy Boys books and the occasional Encyclopedia Brown.  Its hard to imagine anyone not being excited to solve a mystery, or even seem to invent one on their own as a child...not that I'm saying I did that or anything :).

Acting is good all around in the film, but the real flaw is the production and screenwriting.  The "mystery" has little depth, the characters offer little for you to truly care about and emotional moments seem quite forced rather than flowing nicely.  With a daughter on the way, I am still excited to watch films like these with her, but I just wasn't as pulled into this world as I wish I had been.
