Synopsis:
Juno, played by
Ellen Page, is a
teenager living in
Minnesota who
suddenly finds
herself pregnant.
The pregnancy comes
at an awkward stage
for her, being that
the father (Micheal
Cera of
Superbad)
is...shall we
say...a less than
optimal choice to be
a dad.
After careful
consideration of all
options available to
a teen, Juno decides
that giving the baby
up for adoption is
the route she should
take. The film
follows her quest to
choose the best
adoptive parents
(played by Jennifer
Garner and Jason
Bateman) and guide
herself and the
child through the
tortures of high
school and into
motherhood.
The Freak's
Rating: A : That
certain "something"
that you love about
a movie, but can't
put your finger
on...that is magic.
Directors try
desperately to
conjure up magic and
usually fail
miserably (see the
dreadful review on
Mr. Magorium's
Wonder Emporium).
I should have known
I was in for a treat
when I noticed that
Juno is directed by
Jason Reitman, who
directed one of my
favorite films of
last year, Thank You
For Smoking.
Jason is the son of
legendary director
Ivan Reitman.
If you are saying to
yourself, I have no
idea who that is,
check out his dad
Ivan's resume.
From Animal House to
Ghostbusters, Ivan's
made some great
stuff. Jason
didn't let me down.
Ellen
Page stole my heart
as a fantastic
actress-to-be with
Hard Candy.
Hard Candy was the
most difficult film
I have ever watched.
It was amazingly
powerful and I
recommend it to
anyone with a iron
stomach. It
seems most of the
media flat out
ignored it and is
calling this her
breakthrough role,
but trust me, she is
equally strong in a
COMPLETELY different
manner in Hard
Candy.
Ellen Page is right
back on track as
Juno. She
breathes honesty
into the role in a
way that is
endearing and not
annoying, hard to do
these days.
Jen & I were talking
about the film long
after it was over
and the way it
captures you.
Juno seems very real
and you want to give
her a big hug after
the film. She
may not be the
smartest or
prettiest girl, but
she is wonderfully
real.
The entire cast is
so much fun to watch
and the movie is as
quotable as they
come. Fox
Searchlight Pictures
has brought some
amazing films to
mainstream cinema
over the last few
years, including
Juno, Little Miss
Sunshine, The Full
Monty and
Waitress.
Juno is at the top
of my list to see
again. I
honestly can't wait.
Jennifer M's Rating: A : This is a must own. I loved this movie,
but feel like I need to watch it again to capture all of the subtle humor
throughout the film. If you don't like this movie there is something wrong with
you, sorry!
Angie's Rating: A : I loved this
movie. The writing, of course, was wonderful and the acting - really great!
Other than those two reasons above, I think the real reason I am going to go out
and buy this movie, is because it reminds me so much of my friends. The
wonderful snappy comments filled with words that are unfortunately very under
used - reminds me of my friend Rebekah. Also, the clothes that range anywhere
from the 70's to early 90's that look like they were snagged at a thrift
shop.... definitely college nostalgia. :) I totally want to get a hamburger
phone. This movie is awesomely random, sweet, Hillarious, and honest. Should
you see it ? Hellsya!
Eric's Rating: A : This movie was
great. It had elements of reality that made you feel close to the characters,
the humor was great (brings you back to another time in your life) maybe a
little unrealistic in parental support but made for some funny moments. I maybe
am the only one that thinks that Mark (potential adopter) got kind of a raw deal
in Vanessa (Wife) That was a huge house and his little guitar closet sucked!
Laura's Rating: A : (SPOILER WARNING).
I LOVED this movie!! FINALLY! This is the first time in years that I went to
the movie theater and actually enjoyed the movie more than I thought I would
(and I already had high expectations). I was nervous that when the adoptive
parents weren't working out that Juno was going to keep the baby and "live
happily ever after" in typical Hollywood-liberal-fashion (which of course we all
know wouldn't really be happily ever after). I was elated to learn this was not
the case. I'm not sure I'm thrilled with the fact that she gave the baby to the
now single mom, but I'm not sure what would have been a better option
considering the limited amount of time she had. I also really appreciated the
relationship of the immediate family members. Typically when there is a blended
family, the step-mom is always a bitch and the step-kids are always brats. This
showed a much more realistic view of blended families...basically showing that
they're pretty much like every other family. I loved all the characters and the
one-liners were great. I also liked how it was kind of hard to figure out what
time period this movie was supposed to be in. There were people texting on
their sidekicks, yet Juno used a hamburger phone. Also I saw other toys and
such from the 80's laying around! Anyway, I'm not a movie reviewer so I'm not
sure what to write, all I know is that I loved this movie and I would definitely
see it again!
Brian's
Rating: B : Juno is a colorful character, and it is clear why the story
revolves around her. It was interesting to see the sort of nonchalant way she
dealt with her pregnancy, although there were times where the weight of the
situation was evident. It was a good movie.
Nate's Rating: A : Cleverly written, snappy dialog, fun characters,
convincing acting... I wish movies like this was what people mean when they say
"Romantic Comedy". But usually they mean "crap".
Jen's Rating: A :
Great movie! Wonderful acting and hilarious. This movie sticks with you. Am
looking forward to the soundtrack.
Leah's Rating: A : Just saw this movie, loved it! Very refreshing,
real, and unique. loved the soundtrack too...
Sebastian's Rating: A : well i finally ended up getting this movie, and
thank god i did.
This movie was funny, and enlighting. i didn't have my expectations up for this
but im glad i still got it.
