Synopsis:
Holed up in Bruges, Belgium after a
difficult job, two hit men begin to differ on their views of life and death as
they become used to local customs.
Storminator's Rating: A- : What a ride. Much, much darker than my usual
fare - still, it's this kind of movie that restores my faith in modern cinema.
"You can't give horse tranquilizers to a midget!" Brilliant.
The
Freak's Rating: B- : There are some scenes of complete brilliance in
here, but there are also some major problems. There comes a point in a
movie where it either knows it is being clever and exploits it, or is unaware
and maintains it. In Bruges falls into the former category. The
dialogue of the film is an A+. It is written wonderfully and delivered
well. The direction of the film falls off the cliff about halfway through
for me.
Colin Farrell continues to do
wonderful in film and Brendan Gleeson is always hilarious. Ralph Fiennes
character, when seen, is a tad overplayed and the ending of the film just
doesn't do justice to the cleverness in the first and second act. This
could have been a strong A, "worthy of owning and watching again" as this site
suggests an A film should be. It just fell flat for me in the end.
Sebastian's Rating: B+ : Everything up until the end was solid A. the
story, the dwarf, and of course the skinhead. the scene where he's about to get
a shag and the skinhead comes in, that bit was hilarious.
The ending was predictable really, knowing what the hitman said at the bar
earlier, what he would do if he did "that" it really basicly tells you what
happens in the end.
overall this movie could have been an A, yet falls directly underneath. Still a
very entertaining movie, and would reccomened to anyone.
