Brian's Rating: A- : Love this movie.  I have seen it multiple times, and for those who think I do not give romantic comedies a fair shake, I always bring up this one.  Its got a little sci-fi time loop element going with it, but it does not focus on this at all.  Instead it focuses on the evolution of Bill Murry's character who is trapped reliving the same day (groundhog's day) over and over again.

The movie is funny for sure, its romantic for sure, and it is blended together very well.  I like the characters, and I like the acting.

I do have to be objective and knock this back to an A- do to its aged background sound work.  Its 16 year old age is evident in this regard.

If for some reason you haven't seen this, then you simply must give it a try.

The Freak's Rating: A- : Bill Murray is comic gold here. He is absolutely hilarious and provides some of his best lines of his career. For me, there are two flaws in the film.

Flaw one - Andy McDowell. McDowell just isn't good looking enough to merit the work Murray puts in. Her character is difficult to get to know, very standoffish and condescending at times. A hotter girl makes up for this, but she can't pull it off.

Flaw two - Chris Elliot. Elliot served audiences best as David Letterman's skit actor in the 80s/90s. Since then he's played virtually the same character in every film, poorly I might add.

Fix those two casting decisions and we might have an A film here. As it stands, despite quotability and one of the best performances of Murray's career, I stick with an A-.
