Synopsis:
Four young men embark on
a journey to America
after years of wandering
Africa looking for
refuge from one of the
most tragic things in
our world today. God
Grew Tired Of Us isn't a
film that makes you feel
bad, it does what very
few documentaries can.
It makes you want to
help.

Every now and then one
comes along with this
influence and it is
worth a look. During the
brief but necessary
history lesson at the
beginning of the film,
you are immediately
captured into the lives
of these men. In 1987,
Sudan's Muslim
government issued orders
for their military to
exterminate all males in
the Christian south.
27,000 boys fled to
Ethiopia on foot. In
1991 they were forced to
flee to Kenya. 12,000
survived to live in a UN
camp in Kakuma. You are
introduced to their camp
and then you follow the
young men into America.
Though the culture-shock
provides some humor,
this is a serious look
at the lives of brothers
in Christ who have their
priorities in far better
order than most of us.
The questions over the
way our country
celebrates Christmas
were particularly
enlightening.
Watching how an outsider
from another land
interprets and works in
our system is truly
fascinating and puts our
daily lives in
perspective.
After seeing the film, I
contacted our nearest
branch (Chicago) of
refugee assistance to
attempt to help. I would
suggest anyone who sees
the film will do the
same. With all the
negativity in our news
nowadays, it is
refreshing to see how
our government is
helping people who
really need it.
