Synopsis:

Bobby Keller has a best friend and a girlfriend. But, he's not happy. His parents don't notice him, he's failing in school, and he has a crush. He feels his life is pointless. Then, one night, everything changes when Bobby collides with his dream girl Lainie in his elderly neighbors' yard. Now,the elderly neighbor (Coleman) is trapped in Bobby's body, and his wife Geena is trapped in Lainie's body. In Coleman's dreams, Bobby advises him on how to act and that he isn't willing to go back, unless Coleman can fix his screwed-up life.

The Freak's Rating: B- : As I write this review, I'm listening to iTunes, jamming to the soundtrack to the film. I swear, sometimes a soundtrack adds major rating points to a film. Listening to Michael Damian's power ballad Rock On, I'm led to believe the film is far better than it actually was.

Dream A Little Dream is a movie I grew up watching. As I've been doing with nearly every film I can remember so fondly, I decided to give it another spin in the DVD player and see how it holds up over the year. As I expected, acting by the two Coreys is barely tolerable with dialogue delivered far better by Haim than Feldman (per usual). With Feldman playing the lead, the film sags tremendously whenever he speaks. I was surprised at nearly every other part in the film being stronger than I had remembered. Haim is funny, Harry Dean Stanton, Piper Laurie and Jason Robards are solid and Meredith Salenger is just as beautiful as I remember from childhood. I challenge anyone to watch her leotard scenes and not see it.

Granted, there is a music video section of the film that is god awful, dialogue that in no way sounds like teenager-speak, but the storyline was surprisingly interesting this time around. Like I said, the soundtrack is still great after all these years. Dream A Little Dream isn't one I'd rush out to recommend for someone who is looking for a good comedy, but to those who have fond memories of it like me, it is worth a revisit.
