 Synopsis:
Disturbia
= Rear Window +
modern day spin.
Shia LaBeouf plays
Kale. During an
incredible opening 5
minutes of the
movie, about which I
won't give anything
away, Kale is put in
a state of shock and
depression. He acts
up justifiably at
school and is
sentenced by a judge
to house arrest.
This is where the
fun begins. Kale
must stay within 100
yds of a central
tracking device
placed in his family
kitchen. There is a
nice bit of fun to
be had seeing how he
determines
boundaries.
After
the usual few days
of jamming on video
games and computers,
Kale quickly becomes
bored and begins to
snoop on his
neighbors. Spotting
the neighbor
affairs, various
activities children
in the neighborhood
shouldn't be doing
and the new
attractive girl next
door sunbathing
quickly pale in
comparison to
interest in a
neighbor who just
might be a serial
killer.
The Freak's
Rating: C- : I've been telling my
wife Shia LaBeouf is
going to be a star
long enough for her
to be sick of it. He
demonstrates my
praise in his latest
film, but fails a
little in his first.
All the workings of
a thriller are laid
out here and it
isn't that the movie
is bad, its that is
just isn't good
enough. After going
nearly an hour
without stepping too
far into cliche, the
movie spends the
third act engrossed
in every one
imaginable. Carrie
Ann Moss does a
decent job as Kale's
mother and the girl
next door is
semi-believably
attractive, which is
a nice plus (see
below for a fine
example of failure
in this aspect of
casting).
Teenagers of the day
might enjoy it
simply because it is
suspenseful, but if
this movie scares
you, you my friend
are a sissy. Shia
will be a star, but
he still has boyish
charm and Disturbia
has a few scenes
that take him into
an adult world that
he isn't quite ready
for.
Angie's Rating: D+ : mediocure
movie... I still think my cousin gives Shia LaBeouf too much credit. Sorry. :/
Jen's
Rating: C-
Sebastian's Rating: B- : there wasnt
enough in it and it was too predictable but i saw it at night and it did give me
some chills so i think it deserves a B-
