The Freak's Rating: D- : Would you believe the saving grace with this film is the line, "luckily I called ahead and got us a table near the mayonaisse"? Sadly, it is. When deteremining whether or not a film is a complete failure, I must ask myself if there was any moment of the film where I was happy I was watching it. Hugh Grant had a couple good one-liners and that kept the film from being an F.
Oh how I would love it if some of the actors in films I review would visit my site and read a paragraph or two. In this situation I will pretend the two leads in this film did just that and address them each. Sarah, you have character. You are good with comic timing (as evidenced by Sex And The City) and can carry a leading actress role. That said, if you are to play a woman we are to desire, please do something about that nose of yours. Perhaps nobody has informed you to this point, but you are getting older and keeping that gigantic thing around will only remind everyone of your age. Glancing at the poster on this page I can even see it sticking out. So please, a little plastic surgery, k? Hugh, you have milked the "adorable English guy" role to death. Love Actually was your crowning achievement in the role and you should have let it go at that. Move on. How about trying something where you are a bad guy? That might at least fade the stereotype a tad. Otherwise you are destined for Lifetime films in the very near future.
Writing is awful here, with Sarah Pahlin jokes popping out and every small town cliche in the book spewing from the setting the Morgans are placed in. Sam Elliott and Mary Steenburgen do their best, but they can't outdeliver the god awful roles they are placed in.
Did You Hear About The Morgans? is precisely what you think it will be, only a bad version of it. There are romantic comedies that work, even some with these same actors in them, but this doesn't work at all. Parker and Grant have virtually no on-screen chemistry and you just can't believe these two with any line they utter. A virtual complete waste of time here.
