Synopsis:
Inspired by the E.C. comics of the
1950s, George A.Romero and Stephen King bring five tales of terror to the
screen.
The Freak's Rating: B- :
Creepshow was one of the first horror flicks
that I saw growing up. I must have been
around 10 years old when I saw the video tape
sitting at my Aunt Linda's house. Somehow
I had heard of the film (probably from comic
books I read at the time) and my interest was
peaked. Had my mother not forbid me from
seeing it, I might have been able to wait a few
years. However, I was forbidden and so my
interest peaked. I can't recall exactly
where I finally saw it, but it scared the heck
out of me. I revisited it recently on DVD,
mainly for old time's sake.
In
the early 1980s, there was little CGI in film.
The CGI that did exist looked awful and
incredibly fake. Filmmakers backed away
from the technology until the early 90s when a
blend on animatronics and CGI created films like
Jurassic Park, making things unreal see quite
real. Creepshow focused on animatronics
only, and did a fantastic job with them.
Though some scenes seem laughable now, they are
still quite well produced.
There
isn't much to say for the acting here, nor in
many films in this genre. Some of the
stories in this are still creatively scary.
Most are a tad over the top though.
Perhaps I attach too much sentimental value, but
for me this barely garners a recommendation.
