The Freak's Rating: C+ : Romantic comedies are a genre that can only succeed when both comedy and romance are tied together. Couple's Retreat is a fine example of a formula gone wrong. Comedy is done perfectly for the first half of the film, giving some nice laugh out loud moments, but by the time we roll into a Guitar Hero duel, yes you read that right, the comedic moments are completely gone and give way to a pathetic attempt at romantic mood.
With such talent in the acting side of the film, one can only assume that there are some seriously better rewrites of this film that were passed over in favor of crude humor and non-sensical romance. So though there were some very funny moments, the dismal second half of the film is too much to give a recommendation.
