Rating: A :
After all the hub-bub of the holidays is over, one can look back on the highlights. As funny as it sounds, one of my highlights every year is watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Released when I was 13 years old, I recall being old enough to watch it (it was an early PG-13) and my parents allowing me to do so. I laughed myself silly, as did they, and I can say quite honestly that I have watched it annually for the past 20 years.
The Griswold family has been near and dear to me cinematically since the first film, Vacation, hit the big screen. I was only 6 when it was released, but caught it on The Movie Channel (does that even exist anymore?) around 11 years old. Christie Brinkley was one of my earliest crushes, but the film's humor, mostly delivered by Chase, kept me watching it over and over. One of the most memorable characters in film history, Clark Griswold is a Bears fan, a family man...and a bit misguided. He is easily one of the funniest characters of all time.
Yet another of John Hughes' classic scripts simply makes me miss the man's talent and his impact on cinema. Perhaps the only flaw in the film is the sled scene, otherwise it is perfect. A wonderful supporting cast including Juliette Lewis, Johnny Galecki (of the Big Bang Theory), Randy Quaid, Doris Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond) and many others round out great support for the leads and make every scene memorable.
The film is one of the most quotable in recent memory and reflecting just a few days past Christmas, I already look forward to watching it next December.
Angie's Rating: A+ : Hahahahhahahahhaaha.... love it! Those crazy family members. It makes me more appreciative of my own family get togethers :) If you haven't seen this movie, do IT!
