Synopsis:

In late 2007, filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost sensed a story unfolding as they began to fim the real life of Ariel's brother as he interacted online with various people.

The Freak's Rating: B+ : "Think before you click"...a wonderful tagline for a pretty intense documentary. Catfish is a nicely woven piece of filmmaking, keeping you fairly interested throughout and not allowing much time for a drink refill in the film. This film cannot be honestly reviewed without a spoiler, so don't read further if you plan on watching.

My wife and I met on the Internet, through AOL Instant Messenger and went through all the feelings that perhaps the respective other was lying about things. There was much debate by friends and family as to whether or not we should meet, whether one of us was crazy and whether the Internet was a legitimate source to start a relationship. I'm happy to say that nearly 10 years after we met, our lives are wonderful together...but we were honest with each other.

Catfish tells an amazing story about a man in New York City who trusts more than he should and ultimately learns some amazing things about people he truly thought he "knew" on Facebook. The final half hour of this film is easily the most awkward documentary I have ever seen, truly sending your thoughts from pity to happiness to grief in a matter of seconds. I would argue that there are some serious flaws in the construction of the film, since many times you feel like you are just watching roommate's handicams (because you are). There is little talent from a direction standpoint, but the subject is captivating.
