I have never been a fan of James Bond
films. They always seem like the same formulaic trash regurgitated every
few years. Bond is always superhuman, gets a hot chick, has some cool
gadgets and kills the bad guy. Well, for those of you who might think this
formula will disappear, allow me to spoil it for you...it won't. Ian
Fleming, the creator of James Bond, wanted the formula. When the formula
is done well, it can succeed. When it is done poorly, it goes horribly
wrong. We have been through a number of actors playing James Bond.
Sean Connery was great and I could even tolerate Roger Moore. However,
once Timothy Dalton came in, then was succeeded by Pierce Brosnan, I felt the
franchise was in trouble...until now.
Daniel Kraig is the latest actor to
sign the infamous "tuxedo contract". For those who don't know about it,
the "tuxedo contract" is a contract MGM generated after Sean Connery took on the
Bond role. The contract is one that every actor who picks up the Bond role
must sign. It states that within a 10 year period of their role as Bond,
they are not allowed to wear a tuxedo in any other film. Timothy Dalton is
notorious for breaking his contract during a horrible role on an indy comedy and
having to forfeit his royalties from his Bond films.
Kraig refreshes Bond in a way that
was desperately needed. I always had trouble giving a crap about Bond.
Kraig remedies the lack of humanity portrayed in the series in a way I can't
quite explain. He is likeable, but in a respectful way, not a "come over
and have a beer" way.
Casino Royale follows the patterns of
its predecessors, but succeeds where some have failed. There is a style to
this Bond that hasn't been around since Connery and a toughness that perhaps has
never been around. This one is worth checking out.
Sebastian's Rating: A- :
this movie was much better than the most other recent bond movie die
anoter die because the story is makes sense and the scenes aren't exaggerated
plus the difference from this movie and others it didnt have gadgets, i think
there was a couple but this movie sticks with the action and thats what i like
about it.
the only downside is he didnt act much like a spy in some aspacts, and it
dragged on a bit but apart from that this movie rocks!

I usually find something else to do when my husband is watching any
James Bond movie, so when he insisted I go to see this in the theater I was
afraid. All in all and in the end I was entertained for a couple of hours. I
guess I just have to accept the fact that the Bond movies can't be taken too
seriously.
Jen's Rating: C+ :
Never been a huge Bond fan, this movie was good but not memorable.
Angie's Rating: B :
In all Bond movies their must be a slick car with lots of bells and
whistles, cool gadgets, a one of a kind bad guy, and gorgeous women. It
definitely lived up to all of that, with one minor difference, instead of a
plethora or gadgets it was more dare I say physical than the others. The first
20 minutes of the movie bond chases this criminal all over town and up a crane.
The style is Parkour or free running, and it was one of the first times I've
seen it used in a film. After this initial action scene the movie is definitely
much slower than the other bond films, but does a good job setting up the
character for the preceeding storylines. The film definitely falters in places,
but it didn't disappoint me.
Nate's Rating: B- :
Great beginning, ok middle, and a slump at the the end. Compared to
other recent Bond movies, it's a great improvement. This Bond is edgier and
more brutal than any we've seen in a while, and I think it's what the franchise
needed.
Alex's Rating: A : This is not
the best 007 film ever made... but it certainly isn't the worst, let's put it
that way!
It was very thrilling and well paced, and the 144 minutes just flew by as if it
was a short film. It is a well filmed action thriller with plenty of memorable
moments. I could name two or three great moments, but it would spoil the movie
for those of you who have not yet viewed this title. So I will keep my mouth
shut, and let you see for yourselves!
Eva Green was generally a super sexy woman, but her face lets her down. The film
is misleading in terms of the personality of this actress, because a week or two
after seeing this, i saw a TV interview featuring MS Green, and she is not as
intelligent and interesting as the film makes you believe.
Daniel Craig was disappointing. Well, OK, he's new to the Bond franchise, a
great actor and in general, an averagely suitable man for the role... but his
face is absolutely grotesque! He looks like an elephant's rump! And Bond is said
to be seductive and gorgeous. Roger Moore is the best of them all. But
admittedly, I can understand why the filmmakers chose a rugged man to portray
the secret agent - a cocky charmer with a licence to kill!
