Synopsis:
A man whose brain becomes magnetized
unintentionally destroys every tape in his friend's video store. In order to
satisfy the store's most loyal renter, an aging woman with signs of dementia,
the two men set out to remake the lost films.
The Freak's Rating: C- :
Working in a video store for a large chunk of my
life, I'm always interested in any film that
showcases the job. Video store clerks have
one of the most laid back jobs on the planet.
Where else would someone pay you to talk about,
recommend and watch movies all day? The
time period of my life where I had the least
amount of worry was when I worked at and/or
managed a video store.
Jack
Black, overacting per usual, provides a decent
amount of gags in the film, at least enough to
save it from an F. The remainder of the
film is oddly cast. Mos Def continues to
attempt to break into acting and is decent at
best. Danny Glover and Mia Farrow, who
should both be retired at this point, were
somehow talked into being in this thing with bit
parts that required zero acting chops and are
obvious attempts to try to tie a big name to a
small picture.
There
are funny concepts in the film and I did chuckle
a few times. However, with all the
comedies out there on rental shelves, I just
can't recommend this one.
Sebastian's
Rating: B- : i found this movie very funny.
when they were filming ghostbusters, i didn't
see myself laughing, but i really did.
It wasn't the best movie ever, but it's better
then alot of stupid movies that have been
released this year that people find "hilarious"
AKA stepbrothers...
It had a few good morals and overall it was a
pretty good movie.
