Brian's
Rating: A : I have had this movie on the top of my Netflix queue since July,
and it finally came recently (Nov. 08). After seeing Dark Knight when it
opened, I wanted to see this again even more. It is simply an excellent movie.
Many aspects of this movie I like even more than Dark Knight, and if it wasn't
for a mediocre performance by Katie Holmes, I would give it an A+, surpassing
even Dark Knight on my list. As it is, I put it on par with its sequel. It is
just as good, no better, no worse.
Christopher Nolan hit it out of the park with his stylized take on the new
Batman universe. Batman is edgy, but not corny. He is uncertain and
vulnerable, yet still untouchable. Gotham is dark and sinister, yet its not
always night. Nolan portrays all these things in an excellent manner, and
consequently I am hard pressed to think of a more perfect setting for Batman.
Christian Bale is a great choice for Batman, but he is not what makes this movie
great. Nolan is.
As far as super hero movies go, the new Nolan-ized Batman universe is my
favorite. It beats Spiderman easily in my book, and I think it will be top dog
on my list for some time to come. I hope he holds it together to make be able
to make a couple more without falling victim to the inevitability of too many
sequels watering down the whole.
This is a great movie, and easily worth watching again.
The
Freak's Rating: A : Christopher Nolan has breathed new life into the
Batman franchise and this is the first of his masterpieces. Christian Bale
is the best choice for Batman, period. No other actor who has donned the
tights has had his perfect blend of toughness, charisma and likeability.
Cinematography is flat out beautiful
in this film, with epic shots of mountains of Asia as well as Gotham City.
Direction is tight, editing keeps pace steady and acting is solid...with the
exception of Katie Holmes. As Brian says, Holmes single-handedly drops the
film from an A+ to an A.
Batman Begins should be the starting
point for all future generations to get to know the franchise. All the
cartoonish films of the 90s should be forgotten if you ask me. The gold
standard for super hero flicks, Batman Begins is one I own and have watched a
number of times.
Sebastian's Rating: A : i don't particularly want to do a huge review on
this one. i agree with brian and scott this was a good movie, but im pretty sure
