The Freak's
Rating: B :
At first I didn't know if I would be able to believe John Krasinski as anyone but Jim from The Office, but he pulls off a nice character here as Burt. Maya Rudolph, mostly absent from the mainstream since her departure from SNL, also gives a good performance as Verona.
The script is beautifully written, with some moments between the two leads as genuine as you'll find on screen. The MAJOR flaw here is the ending, particularly the last couple of lines of the film. With such genuine creative strokes throughout, the director really takes a backseat to a very stale ending that leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
Overall this is still a very funny and genuine love story/drama/comedy, with more laugh-out-loud moments than I thought I would get. It is a good recommendation for anyone who is a fan of Krasinski and those who love indy films.
